Spitfire Audio Albion II Loegria REDUX

Beautiful composer tools.
Everything you need to write beautiful detailed and esoteric TV, Film & Games music. This volume encompasses a finely sampled and enchanting chamber sized string section, esoteric woods and brass, new cinematic drums, quirky eccentric loops and an inspiring organic synth.
Overview
After the success of the epic sounding Albion 1 the second outing in the range features a smaller more detailed string section and a host of more eccentric and esoteric tools. If you have your sights on independent films, period dramas, or more cerebral and intimate music this library would be a great starting point.
SPITFIRE PRESENTS ALBION VOLUME #2
DETAILED, INSPIRING AND ESOTERIC TOOLS FOR BEAUTIFUL MUSIC.
Made from a totally new set of samples recorded at Air-Studios Lyndhurst Hall, ALBION II is simply the most elegant entry into making detailed, chamber, unique and esoteric music.
Albion ONE and its legacy predecessor, winner of countless awards and plaudits, has found favour the world over, whether it be as a one-stop-shop for media composers, a great starter for students wanting to break into media music, or indeed the building blocks for a fine orchestral set-up. With everything in the Albion range recorded in the hall at Air Studios, it fits perfectly with our Definitive and BML ranges.
Background
Albion II is designed as a stand-alone tool and contains everything you would need to write beautiful and esoteric film scores out-of-the-box. We are excited to present an incredibly talented chamber sized string group of the first call session players here in the UK, as in Albion ONE, recorded as High and Low Ensembles. With strings that concentrate also on an array of additional techniques not found in Albion ONE, and woods and brass that centre more on “choral” use of such sections, at last this intimate sound is available with Spitfire’s mic mixing ability. Loegria is a must buy for Albion ONE users wishing to expand on the possibilities of that broad & thumping tool-set, but also stands alone as a superb tool for creating intimate and emotional scores. If you’ve ever been short of inspiration and desired to create something truly unique sounding and engaging we’re certain Albion II is a great starting point!
As successful composers Paul Thomson, Christian Henson and the rest of the Spitfire team understand the tools that we all need to deliver inspiration in times of creative drought, speed of use when up against the clock and scaleability on a number of systems when composition on your laptop on the red-eye from NY to LA is required.
Loegria is the second instalment in the Albion range that delivers all this to you in one box. We’ve loved beta testing this and many of its fine features are already making their way to dubbing theatres. In all honesty we think it’s the nicest sounding library we’ve ever produced.
Features
ALBION ORCHESTRA “Loegria Sessions” – As with Albion ONE, everything is recorded at Air-Studios Lyndhurst Hall through the finest and rarest vintage valve and ribbon mics onto 2″ tape. Every patch is available with four way mic control and all shorts patches work with the enriching “Ostinatum” gadget. We have a mixture of true legato, longs, and shorts patches, the latter of which are recorded with 4 round robins.
The strings sound-set (in addition to its standard, long, short and legato sets) features a comprehensive selection of additional techniques; the much called for tremolando patches, trills, harmonics, flautando (a favourite for many of our users), light col legno and a variety of shorts patches. With our Loegria Chamber Band, we feel we have created a library that has detail as you would expect but with a richness not found in other chamber strings offerings currently on the market. In addition to the full section, we have duplicated full longs and legatos with a smaller ‘half section’ sized band. With the 4-way mic control the sound is very adaptable and we feel the smaller section is better suited to independent scores, period pieces, romance and comedy, not to mention vocal accompaniment – pop tracks and alike.
The brass range concentrates on the true beauty of traditional British brass sections and their heart wrenching choral qualities. We have two ensembles recorded, a chocolatey bank of Euphoniums and Horns, and the more ancient but no less moving Sackbut choir.
The wind section concentrates on the beautiful simplistic qualities of traditional wooden recorders. Played by a group of the finest players of this in the UK.
THE BYRON TAPES – An inspiring place to start any new indy cue. A comprehensive selection of rhythm loops inspired by a popular keyboard instrument from the 60s and 70s (you know the one, it used real tape).
“…a set of musical loops that sound like they’ve escaped from a 1959 BBC TV documentary.” ; – David Stewart – Sound On Sound
As there were only a few of these rhythms recorded on the original classic they have been subject to massive over-use. Loegria provides an entirely new comprehensive bank of these style of rhythms. With a variety of mix settings including one via a line mixer owned and used by Jimi Hendrix. These loops and patterns are designed to tempo lock with your host.
We hope when you’re up against a deadline and someone says “more quirky” that these loops will be a go-to destination for you.
DARWIN PERCUSSION – Another selection of thundering cinematic drums to reinvigorate your Darwin collections, or indeed start you off with everything you would expect from ‘cinema’ style percussion. We have gone deeper this time with 5 round robins, 5 dynamic layers and more hits. We have also recorded and edited “tight” and for that hooffner (very big indeed) sound; “loose” versions of the patches which really give you a sense of manpower behind the recordings.
FENTON REVERSERS – Any media composer knows that a tricky cut or a suddenly revised edit can make a mess of the musicality of a cue. A trick of ours that blurs a jump in music, a sudden 3/4 bar or 11/8 cut that runs in the middle of a beat, is to use some form of reversed material. Fenton Reversers are a selection of super cool reverses derived from the Albion range and locked into your host tempo so you don’t need to line them up. A lot of these are also mod wheel dynamic cross fade controllable.
STEPHENSON’S STEAM BAND – As with Albion ONE, we have taken the orchestral elements found herein and have warped them out of all recognition into a sparkling and rich set of dozens of pads, drones and atmos. With two way mic control and modulation control, which sometimes effect dynamic and at other times act to “disintegrate” the sound, these sounds mix beautifully in with your orchestral arrangements as they are of wholly organic source.

Spitfire Audio Albion III ICENI

ALBION 3 – APOCALYPTIC LOW END, CONSISTING OF THE LARGEST EVER CELLI, BASS, BRASS AND WOODWIND SECTIONS FOR A COMMERCIAL LIBRARY. AS WITH ALL ALBIONS IT DOESN’T STOP THERE, ICENI IS AN ATHOLOGY THAT CELEBRATES LOW END. IF HYBRID ORCHESTRAL IS YOUR THING, MIXING IT UP WITH DUBSTEP AND DRUM AND BASS, YOU NEED TO PUT THE KEYS INTO THE LOCK OF THIS MONSTER!
THIS LIBRARY IS A FREE “KONTAKT PLAYER” LIBRARY AND REQUIRES NO FURTHER PURCHASES TO OPERATE TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL.
FEATURES
CINEMATIC LOW-END APOCALYPSE
WHERE ORCHESTRAL EPIC DINES OUT WITH THE ROUGHEST FILTHIEST DUBSTEP AND GRIME.
Where Albion I was a set of broad cinematic aerosol cans, Albion – Volume II – Loegria a finer set of detailed sable brushes. Albion III Iceni is a cricket bat, a mace, a large trunk of blunt tree to bludgeon to death any track or cue it comes near.
Iceni is an investigation into low end, thundering enormity, horrifying rasp and obliterating distortion.
Our most expensive commercial venture to-date was recorded to tape via the rarest set of valve and ribbon mics in the hall at Air Lyndhurst, one of the greatest recording studios in the world (Batman Returns, Gladiator, Bourne Ultimatum, Harry Potter, Hunger Games).
The orchestral tool-set is primitively simple and effective; longs, legatos, shorts, with some of the most mind boggling FX in the brass and woods. They’re designed for anyone to use regardless of their experience or understanding of orchestral disciplines and is scaleable on a variety of systems. This is a must-have library whether you’re writing trailers, computer games, TV or film drama or need the new tool for the next generation of Dubstep, Breakbeat, Crunk or Grime.
DARWIN III
All new recordings to add to this thunderous series. The largest and lowest sets of drums available for use in London, including rare British marching toms. Played by the leader and members of the Olympic opening ceremony’s drum corps.
STEPHENSON’S STEAM BAND III
Derived from the orchestral sessions, combined with filthy analogue gear from the 60s and 70s (including processors owned and used by Jimi Hendrix). Stephenson’s III is the lowest and rudest selection of “synth” patches in the range. Ideal for room shuddering full bandwidth bass with contemporary vowel and notch filters for that orchestral BWOAR BWOAR BWOAR!
THE ALBION ORCHESTRA “ICENI” SESSIONS.
The largest, assembled world-class, low-end orchestra for a commercial sample project to-date.
The English Session Orchestra just got very very fat and very very frightening:
Winds: 2 contra bassoons, 2 contrabass clarinets, heckelphone, 2 bassoons, 2 bass clarinets, 1 bass saxophone.
Brass: 2 tubas, 2 cimbassi, 2 contra bass bones, 3 bass bones.
Strings: 0,0,0,24,8 Yes….. that’s no violins, no violas, but 24 ‘Celli, and 8 Basses. Recorded both tutti and in two ‘Celli sections with the ‘Celli split into two on either side of the room with the Basses in the middle. It simply has to be heard to be believed.

Spitfire Audio BML Mural Symphonic String Ensembles

We have cherry-picked the most essential and popular articulations from this blue-chip library to make Symphonic strings ‘Mural’ available in an “ensembles format.” Hurrah Mural for both hands! Each utterance has been painstakingly re-mixed to get the best balance of sections with no audible transitions between them. At last, we can not only work these into our arrangements and orchestrations but compose with them from the get-go too.

The new gold standard in musical strings. A sixty piece strings band (16,14,12,10,8) playing essential articulations. Everything you need to get started with the best musical strings library there is.. Mural is part of the British Modular Range, which is arguably the greatest sounding ultra-deep-sampled orchestral range on the planet today.
Ensembles are made up of the “greatest hits” of the two volumes released thus far. From simple longs, longs muted, staccatos and spiccatos, to the beguiling flautando and harmonics. For users unfamiliar with the Mural range, this is the opportunity to taste the riches of it while having the non fussy ease-of-use of an ensemble range.

Spitfire Audio Symphonic Brass

Expand the sonic arsenal of the Spitfire Symphonic Brass library with 4 additional microphone placements, and 3 beautiful stereo mixes from award winning engineer Jake Jackson. This expansion contains over 173GBs of additional content to help you make the most of Spitfire Symphonic Brass.
Additional mics include the Outriggers (for added width), the warm Close Ribbons, close Stereo Pair, and full space of the Hall in the Gallery. Stereo mixes include Fine, Medium and Broad giving you a polished mixed straight out of the box.
After a decade of exhaustive sampling, and four years spent capturing our finest brass players, Spitfire are proud to present Symphonic Brass. It is a definitive collection of orchestral brass recorded at Air Studios, London. With a broad selection of different section sizes from solo to large groups of Trumpets, Horns & Trombones to featured instruments; with usual suspects such as Bass Trombones & Tubas, to zeitgeist weaponry such as Cimbassi, Contrabass Trombones and a new Contrabass Tuba.
Originally released in modules as part of the BML (British Modular Library) project, Spitfire Symphonic Brass is a rationalisation of these numerous, deep sampled components, along with many improvements, including a host of new articulations and new instruments. We’ve created a more affordable entry into what we believe to be the finest orchestral brass library available today.
To justify these claims we cite this small list of contributing factors:
• British brass players are arguably the best in the world.
• Spitfire has cherry picked the best of the best.
• Recorded to tape at Air Studios via an unparalleled signal path.
• Deepest articulation, dynamic layer, round robin set of brass samples we’ve yet to see
• Produced by an award winning team of composers, producers & engineers.
• Presented in an intuitive interface based on a decade of award-winning sampling experience and a quarter century as working composers.
With playing styles from heart rending choral work to blistering lip bleed material. Whether you’re an aspiring John Williams or a zealous Hans Zimmer-ite we have no doubt that their favourite players will find favour with you!
BACKGROUND
From its collieries, through its jazz clubs, amongst the hundreds of pit bands, sitting proudly abreast at the Proms in the Albert Hall, through symphonic concerts to countless chamber spaces; The British Brass tradition runs through our country and culture like spinal fluid. Spitfire set about creating a definitive showcase of British Brass talent, a doomsday time capsule of this fine tradition.
Whilst there are many great orchestras around the world, there’s just something about British brass that keeps composers coming back, sometimes under the cover of darkness to record illicit “overdubbing” sessions in London. It is the rare combination of the colliery, jazz, West End and classical traditions that produce this swaggering melting pot of rarefied individuals.
Having already recorded a full brass choir for the infamous Spitfire ‘bespoke’ range. Paul, Christian, Stanley and the Spitfire team set about a longer term project to capture this spirit, the spine of our musical culture, for the world to share and celebrate.

Spitfire Audio Olafur Arnalds Chamber Evolutions

We join forces with BAFTA-winning composer Ólafur Arnalds (Broadchurch, Kiasmos, Erased Tapes) to record an all-star ensemble performing his latest set of awe-inspiring evolutions. Based in Reykjavík, Iceland, Ólafur’s approach to sound and composition has inspired a new generation to enjoy and create orchestral music, and following the success of his own Spitfire libraries and our Symphonic Strings Evolutions, he became the obvious choice to create Chamber Evolutions. Here, the 4,3,3,3,3 ensemble of British players (Violin I + II, Viola, Cello, Double Bass) led by long-term collaborator Viktor Orri Árnason perform a range of fragile yet warm beautifully evolving phrases, recorded at the world-famous Hall in Air Studios (London).
With our Evo Grid technology, this library makes it easy to create sophisticated chamber strings music from the most simplistic of arrangements – just a few sustained notes is all you need to write inspiring dynamic textures.
We also introduce here Waves: a brand new innovation featuring notes that move along a wave-like dynamic arc, appearing from nothing, swelling, and then dying away again to nothing. These are accessible via our classic interface, in various styles and lengths.
Chamber Ensemble
Following the release of the Symphonic Strings Evolutions, Spitfire were keen to explore what was possible with a chamber ensemble – this became the motivation to recruit Olafur as a collaborator and the results are truly exceptional. Capturing the detail of individual players, the library has a greater intimacy than its symphonic sibling, yet with enough oomph to hold its own in scores and compositions.
As with his first Evolutions product, Ólafur worked closely with long-time violinist and ‘partner in sound’ Viktor Orri Árnason, who led the ensemble made up of 16 of the best British players.
The Hall
As with many Spitfire libraries, we returned to the iconic Hall at Air Studios. Scores such as Dunkirk, The Beauty and the Beast, Wonder Woman and Paddington 2 were recorded there recently, as well as classics such as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, The Dark Knight and Gladiator. We captured the ensemble with several mics/mixes: Close, Stereo Pair, Tree and Ambient, enlisting only the best classic high-end microphones and pres – all piped through the one-of-a-kind Neve console to Pro Tools and ¼” tape.
Evolutions, Enchanced
Described by Olafur as “a sample you can play for 3 minutes that’ll never sound the same”, evolutions have become widely adopted amongst the composer community as the most effective means of easily writing music that is able to subtly change over time without variation in melodic content. Further to that, the ability to generate randomised evolutions allow unexpected results that are inspirational in their own right.
This library features two new evolutions innovations courtesy of Ólafur:
Feathering – so that only half of the players are performing at any one time. This allows you to play different chords and still hear the detail of the players.
Waves – one of Ólafur’s signature sounds are crescendo-diminuendos, and in order to save having to manual draw-in or perform with a fader, a range of pre-recorded “Waves” have been recorded for instant satisfaction.

Spitfire Audio Olafur Arnalds Evolutions

A truly original and inspiring set of tools, conceived in Reykjavík, Iceland, recorded in Berlin, Germany and realised in London, England that draws on the talents on some true independent thinkers who are shining a new light on classical European instruments, how to play them, use them, abuse them and record and process them with a totally fresh approach.
Recorded in the ultra cool surrounds of Voxton studios Berlin, Ólafur’s hand picked quartet features the talents of multi instrumentalist, composer, and oft co-collaborator Viktor Orri Árnason alongside the searing talents of cellist Sebastian Selke.
Each evolution was exhaustingly curated and produced by Ólafur Arnalds who also prescribed his strict and original approach to how Voxton’s very cool selection of microphones, pre-amps and outboard should best be utilised for this project.
The net result is a deeply beautiful, if not haunting selection of tools that spring out of the box with delightful and refreshing unpredictability. If you’re looking for something cerebral, honest and unique then you’ll need go no further.
BACKGROUND
The BAFTA-winning, multi-instrumentalist and producer Ólafur Arnalds mixes strings and piano with loops and edgy beats crossing over from ambient/electronic to pop. In 2009, Ólafur came together with another Icelandic native, Janus Rasmussen to form an experimental techno project, called Kiasmos. And in 2014 Ólafur announced his electronic debut album under the Kiasmos project.
Ólafur gained huge notoriety with a new audience for his BAFTA-winning score featuring haunting strings, pianos and electronics for the British crime drama, Broadchurch. He has drawn heavily on the techniques he explored for that project for this selection of evolutions.
FEATURES
Ólafur Arnald’s evolutions use Spitfire’s revolutionary Evo Grid system to provide you with an almost infinite number of outcomes. Days were spent creating and discussing ways in which the players could take a note and change it over long periods of time. These notes were then replayed across a number of different pitch centres. These were then placed on a peg board grid system based on the ‘Putney’ synth. Pitch centres down the x axis, the different evolutions or ‘evos’ down the right. Simply peg which Evo you want where or conversely hit our random dice function to automatically select a unique preset from over 30 trillion possible outcomes!
This product also features a variety of different mics and perspectives and custom built plate IRs from which to tweak your sound from intimate and cerebral to haunting and cool.
